My grandparents owned and operated Spa La Belle in Oconomowoc, WI during in the 1950’s.
Spa LaBelle offered vegetarian fare, fresh juices, massage, yoga and various forms of hydrotherapy. Spa La Belle was busy during summer when Oconomowoc was a popular summer retreat for many Midwest families.
During family vacation to Jamaica in 1985 my grandfather suggested the island was “an ideal location for a health spa.” His reasoning was simple Jamacia renowned worldwide for it’s rich and diverse culture, the warmth of is people and climate and people, wonderful climate, fresh foods, beautiful mountains and rivers and an abundance of fresh water, and miles of coast and beaches. During the next 20 years my experience I would expand on the concept of a spa that nourishes not only the mind and body but also the earth. Camp Cabarita is the nexus of pragmatism, sustainability combined with educational and entrepreneurial system design It was in that moment that Camp Cabarita was incepted.
